JJ Hill Magnet Montessori School is a designated "Peace Site" and promotes values of human rights and peace education among its students, teachers, and other staff. In the fall, the entire school held a peace celebration. In preparation for the celebration, students designed and rehearsed performances, including a shadow puppet play, a display and skit about child soldiers, and a musical performance of traditional folk dances from various cultures. During Spring 2002, the school participated in the Nobel Peace Prize Festival, along with dozens of other Twin Cities metro area schools. The festival recognized South Korean president Kim Dae Jung, the recipient of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize.
