The Human Rights Awards

This year our Human Rights Awards honor Priscilla Hayner and Sofia Macher for their work to promote human rights and peace through truth and reconciliation.

Priscilla Hayner is an expert on truth commissions around the world and has written widely on the subject. Ms. Hayner is a co-founder of the International Center for Transitional Justice, where she currently serves as Director of the International Policymakers Unit. Prior to joining the ICTJ, Ms. Hayner served as a consultant to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and as a program officer on international human rights and world security for the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.

Sofia Macher has been involved in the human rights movement for nearly three decades, including tenures as the first female head of the Peruvian branch of Amnesty International, three consecutive terms with the Executive International Committee of Amnesty International, and a position on the Executive Secretariat of the National Organizing Committee of Human Rights. Dr. Macher also served as a Commissioner for Peru's Truth and Reconciliation Committee, documenting the worst tragedies of Peru during its history as a Republic.
